But, I'm Just One Domino!

I don’t know about you, but I wish I were having an Instagram kinda Fall right now. You know, the one where you jump into a pile of fresh raked leaves on a crisp sunny autumn day or being able to enjoy a pumpkin spice latte in that extra fashionable fall wardrobe. Or, how about a nice chilly night at a football game? Instead, I am literally falling. Falling short on all of life’s demands….falling short on paying attention to my relationships…falling short on being intentional with spending time with God in His word or at church…. Falling short on sharing Jesus with others……basically just falling short on everything.

Ever feel like that? So many demands pulling you every which way that you are not even sure how you can have an impact on this world? It’s like feeling like one tiny drop in the vast ocean or like being one little star in a magnificent universe of billions.

What if I were to tell you that it is ok to be small? What if I told you that God has got this and will use you wherever he has placed you and with whatever he has given you?

There are so many verses in the Bible about trusting God and being confident that we are made in very special unique ways to serve him, but let’s look at Proverbs 3:5-6. ”Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Did you notice something? It says, “trust in the Lord” and “lean not on our own understanding.” In other words, trust God, fall on Him. ….mmmmm… It’s ok to fall.

Let’s think about this another way. Imagine dominoes. You know how this works, right? Hundreds and sometimes thousands of these small little bricks are set up in carefully planned intricate patterns. When the first domino is pushed over, the whole entire pattern jumps to life as one domino falls on another creating an amazing ripple effect throughout the whole design. In order for the dominoes to fall correctly in the pattern, each domino must be carefully and intentionally placed into the matrix. Then, that one domino just needs to fall where they have been placed.

You are a domino. You have been carefully and intentionally placed into God’s design. You just need to fall. Our role may feel so incredibly small, but we can be assured that even during times where we feel completely inadequate and that nothing is going as we had intended that he is using us as part of his grand design. We may not realize the ripple effect we have, but someday in heaven we will see all the unexpected, small or maybe even big ways God used us to further his kingdom. Notice the last part of the Proverbs verse? “He will make your paths straight.” Trust God. Fall on Him. He’s got this. He is using you for a specific purpose no matter how bad you feel you have messed things up or how inadequate you think you are.

So even if you are just one small domino, never underestimate the impact you may have. Go ahead, fall. Fall on Jesus.
